Matthew Kerns' "Buffalo Bill & Texas Jack" at LeClaire’s Buffalo Bill Museum 199 North Front Street, LeClaire, IA
John Baker Omohundro, also known as "Texas Jack", was an American frontier scout, actor, and cowboy. Of a old Virginia family, he scouted for the CSA's General J.E.B. Stuart during the Civil War and for the US Army during the Indian Wars where he met Buffalo Bill. Before his untimely death, Texas Jack partnered with Buffalo Bill and Wild Bill Hickok and acted in dramatic productions staged throughout the country. Like them, Texas Jack was immortalized in dime novels published around the world.
Matthew is a historian, author, and digital archivist from Chattanooga, TN who manages the popular western podcast Dime Library and the Texas Jack Facebook page. He has had multiple articles about Texas Jack published in The Texas Jack Scout, the triannual publication of the Texas Jack Association. His first book, Texas Jack: America's First Cowboy Star, was released May 1, 2021, from Two Dot Books.
